Job Description

1. Experience
Zimbabwe has made important strides in enacting legislation to address violence against women and girls (VAWG). However, significant implementation gaps persist, especially for women and girls facing multiple and intersecting forms of discrimination such as those living with disabilities, adolescent girls, women in rural areas, and women from low
• income households. These overlapping vulnerabilities often result in compounded experiences of gender
• based violence (GBV), and yet, policy and legal responses have not always adequately addressed these complexities. Violence against women and girls (VAWG) remains a pervasive and deeply rooted challenge in Zimbabwe, particularly among marginalized populations in rural, peri
• urban, and resource
• poor settings. Despite progressive legal frameworks like the Domestic Violence Act, their effectiveness is hampered by weak accountability systems, limited
• service provision, and prevailing patriarchal norms that normalize abuse and silence survivors.
The intersection of poverty, climate change, disability, religious fundamentalism, and harmful cultural practices further exacerbates vulnerability, making access to justice, protection, and support services both urgent and critical. The Issue Paper will be developed to explore the intersectional dimensions of GBV, generate evidence, and provide targeted recommendations to policymakers, practitioners, and advocates.
