We're excited to announce the launch of our new Smart Screening System, a powerful tool designed to transform how employers find talent and how candidates apply for jobs.

System Overview

The Smart Screening System is a pre-application qualification tool that helps employers filter candidates before they submit full applications. It consists of customizable questionnaires that candidates must complete before applying for a position.

Key Components
  • Question Library: 19+ pre-written Zimbabwe-specific questions
  • Custom Questions: Create unlimited custom questions for your specific needs
  • Scoring Engine: Automatic calculation of candidate scores based on weighted responses
  • Email Notifications: Instant feedback to candidates via email
  • Analytics Dashboard: View screening results alongside applications

Employer Guide

Step 1: Setting Up Screening Questions

When creating or editing a detailed job posting, navigate to the "Screening Questions" section:

  1. Access the Question Library: Click "Browse Question Library" to view all available questions
  2. Select Questions: Choose questions that are relevant to your role (you can select multiple)
  3. Set Mandatory Requirements: Mark certain questions as "mandatory" - candidates must meet these to proceed
  4. Create Custom Questions: Click "Create New Question" to design job-specific questions

Step 2: Configuring Scoring

Each question can contribute to the candidate's overall score:

  • Question Weight: Assign points (0-100) to each question based on importance
  • Pass Threshold: Set the minimum score (percentage) candidates need to proceed (e.g., 70%)
  • Mandatory Questions: These are automatically pass/fail - candidates must select the correct answer
Important

Set realistic thresholds. A 100% requirement will reject most candidates. We recommend 60-80% for most roles.

Step 3: Reviewing Screening Results

Once candidates start applying, you'll see their screening data in your application management dashboard:

  • Score Display: Each application shows the screening score (e.g., 85%)
  • Tags: Automatic tags like "Exceptional match" (90%+), "High match" (70-89%), or "Meets minimums" (<70%)
  • View Answers: Click "View Answers" to see detailed responses to each question
  • Filter by Score: Use filters to view only candidates above a certain score
  • Filter by Tags: Filter by match quality tags

Understanding Your Results

If You Pass

Congratulations! You'll receive:

  • Your screening score
  • Permission to proceed with the full application
  • A "First Bold Move" congratulatory email
  • Tips on completing your application

Next Step: Complete the full job application form

If You Don't Pass

Don't worry! You'll receive:

  • Your screening score
  • List of specific requirements you didn't meet
  • Suggestions for alternative actions
  • Employer contact information

One Attempt Policy

To ensure fairness, you can only take the screening once per job posting. This prevents candidates from gaming the system by retaking multiple times. Answer carefully and honestly.

Scoring System Explained

How Scores Are Calculated

The system calculates scores using a weighted point system:

Example Calculation:

Job has 5 questions, each worth 20 points (total = 100 points)

  • Question 1: Correct answer selected = 20 points
  • Question 2: Correct answer selected = 20 points
  • Question 3: Incorrect answer = 0 points
  • Question 4: Correct answer selected = 20 points
  • Question 5: Correct answer selected = 20 points

Total Score: 80/100 = 80%

Automatic Tags

Based on scores, candidates receive automatic tags:

  • Exceptional match - 90% and above
  • High match - 70-89%
  • Meets all minimums - Below 70% but passed all mandatory questions

Best Practices

For Employers

  • Keep it short: 5-10 questions maximum. Candidates lose interest with longer screenings.
  • Be specific: Use mandatory questions for deal-breaker requirements only.
  • Test your screening: Before publishing, review what candidates will see.
  • Set realistic thresholds: 60-80% is ideal for most roles.
  • Review regularly: Update questions based on the quality of candidates you're receiving.
  • Use the library first: Our pre-written questions are tested and legally compliant.

For Candidates

  • Read carefully: Each question can only be answered once.
  • Be honest: Dishonest answers will be discovered during interviews.
  • Don't rush: Take your time to understand what's being asked.
  • Update your profile: Some questions pull data from your profile.
  • Check email: Detailed feedback is sent via email.

Troubleshooting

Common Issues

No, each candidate gets one attempt per job to ensure fairness. However, if you believe there was a technical error, contact the employer directly using the information provided in your results email.

Your screening might be too long or have too high a pass threshold. Review your questions and consider reducing to 5-7 essential questions. Also ensure the pass threshold is reasonable (60-80%).
