Why Enable MFA?
Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) significantly enhances your account security by requiring a second form of verification beyond your password. Even if someone obtains your password, they cannot access your account without the second factor.
What You'll Need
- Access to your email address (for email-based verification)
- OR an authenticator app like Google Authenticator, Authy, or Microsoft Authenticator (for TOTP)
- About 5 minutes to complete setup
Step 1: Access Security Settings
- Log in to your Everyday Vacancies account
- Click on your profile icon in the top-right corner
- Select Account Settings
- Navigate to the Security tab
Step 2: Choose Your MFA Method
We offer two MFA options to suit your preferences:
Email Verification
Best for: Users who want simplicity
- Receive a 6-digit code via email
- No app installation required
- Works with any email provider
- Codes expire after 10 minutes
Authenticator App (TOTP)
Best for: Users who want maximum security
- Time-based one-time passwords
- Works offline
- Codes refresh every 30 seconds
- Industry-standard security
Setting Up Email MFA
- In Security settings, click Enable Email MFA
- Confirm your email address is correct
- Click Send Verification Code
- Check your inbox for the 6-digit code
- Enter the code within 10 minutes
- Click Verify & Enable
Tip
Check your spam folder if you don't receive the code. Add our email to your contacts to ensure delivery.
Setting Up Authenticator App MFA
- Download an authenticator app on your phone:
- In Security settings, click Enable Authenticator App
- A QR code will appear on screen
- Open your authenticator app and scan the QR code
- Enter the 6-digit code from the app
- Click Verify & Enable
Important: Save Your Recovery Codes
After enabling MFA, you'll receive recovery codes. Store these securely! If you lose access to your MFA device, these codes are your only way back into your account.
Logging In With MFA
Once MFA is enabled, your login process will include an extra step:
- Enter your email and password as usual
- When prompted, enter your 6-digit MFA code
- Click Verify to complete login
Remember This Device
On trusted devices, you can check "Remember this device for 30 days" to reduce how often you're asked for MFA codes.
Managing Your MFA Settings
You can manage your MFA settings anytime from the Security tab:
- View active methods: See which MFA methods are currently enabled
- Add backup method: Set up a second MFA method as backup
- Generate new recovery codes: If you've used some codes
- Disable MFA: Remove MFA (requires re-authentication)
Troubleshooting
Not receiving email codes?
- Check your spam/junk folder
- Verify your email address is correct in account settings
- Wait 2-3 minutes and try again
- Contact support if issues persist
Authenticator codes not working?
- Ensure your phone's time is synced automatically
- Try the next code (they refresh every 30 seconds)
- Make sure you're using the code for Everyday Vacancies
Lost access to your MFA device?
- Use one of your recovery codes to log in
- If you don't have recovery codes, contact support with account verification
For Employers: Team MFA Requirements
If you're an employer managing a company profile, you can require MFA for all team members:
- Go to Company Settings → Security
- Enable Require MFA for all team members
- Team members will be prompted to set up MFA on their next login
This helps protect your company's job postings and applicant data from unauthorized access.
